Files
You can attach files to messages in any encrypted conversation. Each file is encrypted in your browser with its own key before upload. The server stores only scrambled bytes and never sees the file’s name, type or contents.
Supported formats#
| Kind | How it appears |
|---|---|
| Images: PNG, JPEG, GIF, WebP, AVIF | Shown in the conversation after your browser decrypts them |
| Everything else | A file card with name and size, and a download button |
Any file type can be sent. Because the server can’t look inside encrypted files, it can’t scan them for malware. Veyragram warns you before saving a file whose type can run code (for example .exe, .apk, .sh, .html or .svg); open those only if you trust the sender.
Several files can be attached to one message. Files can’t be sent in Telegram chats, which carry text only.
Limits#
| Limit | Default | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Largest file | 10 MB | Higher on Premium. The app shows your current limit. |
| Your storage | 500 MB | Total size of the files you have sent that haven’t expired yet. Higher on Premium. |
| Server storage | Shared by everyone | When it is full, uploads are refused with “This server’s file storage is full” until older files expire. |
The operator of the server you use can change these values. Your plan’s limits are on the Premium page.
How long files are kept#
A file is kept for the same number of days as its conversation’s messages, then deleted from the server. Uploads that are started but not finished are discarded after 15 minutes.
Download links are created on demand and expire after two minutes, and your browser checks that the file is exactly what the sender encrypted before showing it.
