Status and limitations

Veyragram is pre-release software. This page lists what it doesn’t do yet, so you don’t discover it the hard way.

Security#

  • The encryption has not been independently audited and has no forward secrecy. See Encryption.
  • Checking that you are encrypting to the right devices relies on comparing safety codes; there is no automatic key verification.
  • Some wallet and Telegram combinations haven’t been tested with real accounts yet. If something doesn’t work, tell the operator.

Devices and history#

  • New devices can’t read messages sent before they existed, and there is no way to move keys or history between devices.
  • Clearing your browser’s site data deletes that device’s keys permanently.
  • The installed app doesn’t send messages while offline.

Messaging#

  • Encrypted rooms reach at most 256 devices.
  • There is no search across conversations on the server (it can’t read them).
  • Telegram chats carry text only (photos and other media show as a label). Chatting with @usernames through your own Telegram account is new and not yet tested with every Telegram client. See Telegram.
  • Notifications outside the open app are available only through Telegram.

Holdings#

  • Token-2022 tokens, NFTs and collections, and .sol names can’t be used for room requirements or Premium.
  • Losing eligibility takes effect at the next check, up to about five and a half minutes later.

Not built#

  • Tipping, escrow or any other sending of funds between people.
  • Native phone and desktop apps (the web app can be installed instead).
  • Telegram @handles and Telegram secret chats.
